Have you ever heard of felted soap? Well, honestly, I never had. When I first saw a picture of a felted soap on my Instagram feed, I was quite intrigued by the whole idea. It did look cute and wanted to try it against my skin.
Felted soap is a soap bar that has wool felted over it. So, when you use a felted soap, it lathers up to give you a good wash and the felting works as a natural exfoliating cover. Thus, you get to enjoy your soap and exfoliating loofah in one go!
The felted soap instructions in this story will help you make these naturally anti-fungal & anti-bacterial soaps. They tend to last longer and help you save money on soaps. Easy to make without any special instruments, felted soaps will prove to be a unique gifting idea.
Requirements
A bar of soap (any soap you like. It may be store bought or handmade or even a bar of used soap.)
Roving wool (any color)
Felting pen (to add detailing to the soap design, if required)
Hot water (1 big bowl)
Towel
Step 1
Take a soap bar and cover it with roving wool. Wet one end of the wool lightly and stick it to the soap. The roving wool layer used should not be too thick or too thin. The layer should be thick enough to be able to see the soap bar when you cover it with the wool.
Step 2
Once you completely wrap the soap with roving wool, tuck the end in. You can add more colors by placing roving wools of other colors over the soap. Once you are done, drizzle hot water over the soap and start pressing the wool gently.
Step 3
Continue to rub the soap so that it starts to lather. Keep rubbing with hot water as it helps bind the wool together. This process needs patience. It will take about 10 to 12 minutes to felt wool.
Step 4
You will find the wool over the soap starts contracting and will form a tight casing around the soap.
Step 5
Wipe off excess lather gently from the felted soap using a paper towel. Keep the felted soap to dry and you are done.
This is all you need to do, when making felted soap. It's very easy to make felted soap at home. You don’t need a lot of raw materials to start a felted soap project. Try it once, and you will surely be hooked to making felted wool soap.
