Handmade Soap Recipes

Commercial soaps can cause a lot of irritation and allergies to some skin types. Making soaps at home allows you modify the ingredients according to your requirements. Here are some handmade soap recipes for you to try.
Handmade soaps are a cheap alternative to commercial soaps. The main difference between handmade and commercial variety is that you can make the soap smell of the fragrance you like. People assume that making soap at home is difficult; however, it's very easy to do.

Recipes

Here are some organic soap recipes which will soothe your skin as well as your mind.

Vanilla-Almond

With this, you will be able to remove dirt and oil from the skin and moisturize it as well. Vanilla gives a delicious fragrance and the almonds create a nice texture.

Ingredients:


» ⅓ cup whole almonds
» 1 4-ounce bar Castile soap
» ¼ cup distilled water
» 1 tablespoon almond oil
» ¼ teaspoon vanilla fragrance oil

Method:

♠ Grind the almonds to a fine powder in a food processor, and keep aside.

♠ Shred the soap into pieces.

♠ Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan, reduce the heat, and let it simmer.
♠ Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the almond powder, almond oil, and vanilla oil to the water, and stir until it is well-blended.

♠ Now, add the shredded soap to the saucepan and stir well.

♠ Then take a spoonful of the soap and mold it into your favorite shape. Leave it aside until it hardens.

Citronella

This works wonders on the skin.

Ingredients:


» 1 cup Castile soap (grated)
» ½ cup water
» 10 drops citronella oil
» 5 drops eucalyptus oil
» 1 teaspoon pennyroyal leaves (dried and crushed)

Method:

♠ Add the soap and water together, and mix well.

♠ Then, add all the other ingredients and blend them in a mixer until the soap doubles in volume.

♠ Spoon the soap out, and shape it with your hands. Make sure you are really quick with this, as the beating action cools the mixture.

Olive Oil

Olive oil works as an excellent skin moisturizer.

Ingredients:


» 16 oz pure olive oil
» 2 oz lye
» 6 oz water

Method:

♠ Heat the olive oil to 150º F.

♠ Mix the lye and water together, and stir with a wooden spoon.

♠ Let the oil cool down to 120º F, and then add the lye and water mixture to the oil.
♠ Keep mixing together until you see trace coming out of it.

♠ Pour the mixture into a mold, and let it set for 2 hours before you remove it from the mold and hand mold it.

Lavender-Chamomile

This is a very gentle soap, and it can also be used on children. The lavender oil will make you feel relaxed.

Ingredients:


» 2 teaspoons lavender buds (ground)
» 5 drops lavender essential oil
» 2 drops chamomile essential oil

Method:

♠ Melt the soap in water using a double boiler.

♠ When the mixture reaches a jelly-like consistency, add chamomile, ground lavender buds, chamomile oil, and lavender oil, and mix the ingredients well.

♠ Pour the mixture into the mold, and let it sit for about 2 to 4 hours before you remove it to hand mold.
When you are making soaps at home, make sure you patch test the soap before you use all over your body to avoid any allergies.
