How to Make High Fashion Jewelry

If you thought that making costume jewelry at home consists of stringing beads to make a boring bracelet, you cannot be further from the truth. High fashion costume jewelry can be fashioned out of many materials like sequins, ribbons, semi precious stones, buttons, different metals, feathers and lace.

Pearl and Lace Necklace

Things required
  • 2 stands of faux pearls (in two different sizes)
  • Beading wire
  • Narrow lace
  • 2 jump rings
  • 2 crimp beads
  • Wire cutters
  • 1 accent bead
Procedure
Cut the beading wire into two pieces, one 9'' and the other 11'' in length with the help of wire cutter. Thread a jump ring through both the beading wires and then string one of the crimp beads through the wires. Thread the smaller sized pearls through the shorter wire and keep adding more until you are 1 inch away from its end.
Now thread the larger pearls through the longer beading wire until you are four inches away from the end. Thread the accent bead and then thread the larger pearls until you are 1 inch away from the end of the beading wire.
Thread a crimp bead through both the beading wires followed by a jump ring. Attach required length of lace to the beading wire on both sides by knotting lace through the jump rings. Tie a little bow with the lace on one side of the necklace and your necklace is done.

Feather earrings

Things required
  • 12 feathers (of 2-3 different patterns)
  • Pliers
  • Crimping beads
  • Beading wire
  • Headpins
  • 2 beads
Procedure
Trim the feathers from the base so that the central spine of the feathers is visible. Assemble six feathers together so that you have at least two to three different feather patterns. Attach a headpin to the base of the feathers with the help of pliers.
Thread a bead through the headpin as well as the spines of the feathers and then slide a crimping bead through it. Next, attach the earring wire to the end of the headpin and secure it with the pliers. Repeat the same steps to make the other earring. Your feather earrings is ready.

  • Sequin trim (¾ inch wide and 7 ½ inches long)

Procedure
Place the leather tape on the work table and apply a line of fabric glue on the edges of the leather tape. Now place the sequin trim over the leather tape and hold it firmly in place. After 3-4 minutes, the sequin trim will be firmly glued on the leather tape.
Fold the top and bottom ends of the leather tape about half an inch from the edges and glue the edges together. Now cut a small piece of metallic cord and make a small loop with it. Attach the metallic cord on one end of the leather tape. Sew the metallic button on the other end of the tape. Your sequin cuff is ready and you can wear it on your wrist.
